Why Students Do Gen Z Things

Ding! Ding! Ding! That’s the sound of your phone when it gets a notification. As you are reading this, I’m willing to bet you have your phone near you or even in your pocket… right? At this moment you could be getting notifications whether it be from Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or even a text message. Point is we have our phones on us constantly because we’re constantly getting alerts everyday from them. The way we use our social media is different for everyone, depending on your school or work life.

I am now a Junior in high school and love the thought of technology and their advancements. I grew up with technology what seems like all of my life. Since I am still in high school, I probably use technology different than those with full- time jobs or even those who are starting their own business. I spend most of my day at school learning, collaborating with friends and using technology in most of my assignments. From my experience technology has drastically changed from my middle school years to high-school. From desktops to Chromebooks, projectors to smart boards and so much more!

“Millennial’s are tech savvy. Gen Z’s are tech native.”

The difference between the uses of technology is simply because of the differences in generations. An article I read uses the quote “ Millennial’s are tech savvy. Gen Z’s are tech native” and I totally agree with this! Like I mentioned before, students my age simply grew up with technology and use it to their daily advantage whereas millennial’s use it in their work life or profession. So what does this mean for our future? It means there could be job loss, but along with that comes job advancements due to the technology growth.

“Gen Z will, we believe, completely change the way we do business in the future”

Millennial’s and Gen Z’s aren’t that different though… think about it. Sure, Gen Z grew up with technology and social media and applied it to their benefit as simply as “keeping up with friends.” Whereas millennial’s are tech savvy and use it in their everyday professional work whether it’d be a doctor or teacher. But what’s one thing we all have in common? OUR SMARTPHONES! They’re on us 24/7 and we all can admit that if we didn’t have them we would all feel that little “I’m lost without it” feeling. Every time we get a notification, we check it. Every time we’re out with friends, we snap a picture. When you scroll through Instagram or Facebook, you’ll probably like someone’s picture. The list goes on… my point is look at the incredible differences between the technology uses but also look how they benefit us and help us in our daily lives. Technology and social media is truly great!

I'm currently a junior in high school. I enjoy the outdoors like snowboarding, running, and fishing! I am enrolled in business classes to further my education in that field. In 5 years I hope to be an entrepreneur with my own business.
